Jim Shelley & Book Of Kills

Scarce Updates For The Week

I think it's pretty freakin' awesome that some folks check into bookofkills.com almost daily and have been for years. It's humbling that you'd care enough to do so. Thanks. Anyhow, I might not be doing a whole lot of updating over the next seven days or so, but then again I've gone longer stretches than that in between updates on the news page, so I guess that's not exactly big news.

Grant Hart was born on this day in 1961. He died much too young, September 13, 2017. I vividly remember the shock I felt when I found out because I didn't even know he was so ill. We were down in Charleston, South Carolina to attend the wedding of my niece when I heard the news on the television. No one else in the room had the slightest idea who he was. By the way, the recent Husker Du box set, SAVAGE YOUNG DU is simply awesome.

The greatest single of all time, "Strawberry Fields Forever"/"Penny Lane", hit number one on the U.S. singles charts on this day in 1967.

On this day fifty years later to the day, the inimitable and darn near immortal Chuck Berry passed away at the age of 90.

"I'm not a tech fan. I don't get that charge that comes from having the new little gizmo in your pocket. Maybe I'm a dinosaur. There's nothing battery-operated that will help me write songs any differently from the way I've done it for years. Maybe there's something new that can document an idea quicker, but pen and paper have always been pretty handy for me." -- Grant Hart
