Nokie Edwards Passes and Other News

Nokie Edwards has died from complications from an infection he contracted at the hospital where he'd recently had a hip operation. I'm betting 99.9% of all Americans haven't got the slightest idea who Nole Floyd Edwards was, but he was a huge influence on my own music...one of the very first musicians I can recall whose work fascinated me. His group The Ventures were potent teachers in the school of rock in which I had enrolled even before The Beatles made their splash in February 1964. Indeed, "Walk Don't Run" might well be the first song I ever tried to play on guitar. Mr. Edwards's influence extended to such latter-day rock guitarists as Bruce Springsteen, John Fogerty and Mark Knopfler. You can hear his influence on my own music in the guitar hooks of such BOK songs as "Ah Ahh Ahhh!", "Face", "Lost", "Killing Time Again", "Free Assembly", "Psychic Diving" and "No Time For Love", among numerous others. He was apparently known as a humble, gentle, kind man. That doesn't surprise me.

I've added even more prose stuff from the past, including a 2003 interview from Harrisonburg, Virginia's DAILY NEWS-RECORD's Jennifer Bonds. I'll also be uploading another live song or two soon.

Four years ago today I recorded "Marking Time" from the 2014 album RIDING THE ECHO DOWN. Can't believe it has been that long already.

"I believe in simplicity. If you have a melodic line, people will like it. If you can hum it, you can have a hit." -- Nokie Edwards
