Jim Shelley & Book Of Kills

Next Up - Part Two

I've decided to combine Singles #'s 10, 11 and 12 for the next album upload. This will create what is in essence a 14 song record. I have remixed 7 of those songs. Inexplicably, I cannot find the multi-tracks for single #12. I've spend a good part of the past two days looking everywhere they could possibly be stored but I cannot locate them, which is extremely disheartening. Of course, as you're probably aware, I have a long history of losing the original multi-track recordings of my songs. I would guess that I don't even have access to half them at this time. That would include DIFFERENT, WASP 51!, ALL ABOUT YOU, I CAN'T GIVE YOU ANYTHING BUT LOVE, BLOOM OR DIE?, WRITING ON THE WALL, HOGGETT HEADS, and TOWARD THE ESCAPE, among others. As Donald Trump would say...sad. Bigly sad.

George, Garfield and I will add another song to the list next week...something I've never done live before. We'll also be trying to better work out the arrangements to a couple other songs. I'd say after that we'll probably try to come up with one or two other songs which will give us a 16-18 song repertoire...easily enough material to play a couple shows. I would imagine we'll probably look to doing something in late April or some time in May. George will be out of the States for a week or so visiting (former BOK drummer) Mike Hicks in Spain, so we'll have to work around that, as well. Who knows? Might be June before we step out into the spotlight.

Woody Guthrie wrote "This Land Is Your Land" on this day in 1940. The lyrics would seem to me to be more pertinent today than ever.

This Land Is Your Land
Words and Music by Woody Guthrie

This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.

When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.
