Jim Shelley & Book Of Kills

Mastering & Maximizing the Concert

I spent a large part of the day editing and mastering the concert recording from last Saturday. I used a sonic maximizer to give it a broader live'r feel. I believe there's a good chance that I'll be able to upload the individual files to the audio page by late tonight (Wednesday). The sound's not so bad. It's definitely a headphone listen, if you ask me. Lots of little conversations going on in the background and I think you really get the "feel" for the show listening on a good pair of cans if you got 'em.

On this day in 2003, Casey and Jane Firkin, Bill Bird, Randy Simpson and I played our final gig together as Book of Kills at the SoundQuilt Festival in Gore, Virginia. The set list: Wooly Bully, Cave In, Style-->Bad Person, Caroline, Nelson-->Then I Kissed Her, Sweet William, AntiMan, Clever, Jesco White, Sweet, Why Won't You-->Can't Stand It Anymore, Don't Stop The Scream.

Appropriately enough, Lou Reed performed with the Velvet Underground on this day in 1970 for the final time at Max's Kansas City Club in New York City.

"The most important part of my religion is to play guitar." -- Lou Reed
