Jim Shelley & Book Of Kills

I'd Be Remiss

The past year or so has been, to put it mildly, a trying one in terms of losing, or nearly losing, friends and family and, of course, pets. Last weekend saw the passing of yet another friend, Vilas, to whom we'd both been quite close in so many ways since the '90s. Vilas was much too young to have already left us. He was always more than passingly interested in my music, in particular, how I'd taught myself to play guitar (something he'd tried himself, not very successfully, unfortunately). I'll never forget how excited he was after seeing Book of Kills for the first time back in 2002 at Alston's in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Goodbye, friend. I wish you a great journey on to the next plane of existence.

On this day in 1967, The Beatles recorded the crashing single piano chord that famously ends their masterpiece, "A Day in the Life" on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Just a hop, skip and jump in time later, the great Andy Warhol passed away after an apparently botched operation to remove his gall bladder on this day in 1987.

"My fascination with letting images repeat and repeat - or in film's case 'run on' - manifests my belief that we spend much of our lives seeing without observing." -- Andy Warhol
