Jim Shelley & Book Of Kills

About 1/3

I've completed 12 albums. That's closing in on about 1/3 of the way towards finishing up the whole project.

Have you checked out Neil Young's online archive? It's pretty cool. You can listen to his music FREE (for now) in full 24 bit/192 kbps resolution! The sound is markedly better, to even my worn out ears, than a 320kHz sound file. (By the way, compact discs are 16 bit/44.1 kbps by comparison...significantly inferior sonically. By contrast MP3s are compressed by an algorithm that throws away parts of the sound that long laborious testing supposedly determined could not actually be heard by humans. Here's a fun fact: The song used as the comparator for each attempt at the algorithm was Suzanne Vega’s "Tom’s Diner".)

I wish I could put together some humongous online archive rather than one contained on a USB flash drive, but I already pay $270 a year just to keep the little website I've got in place now. And each one of my albums costs between $20-$60 to upload. And I'm not even sure how exactly I'd be able to put everything in place anyway. I'm pretty sure ol' Neil has a web developer doing all his work for him.

"Neil Young does throw in a major seven chord here and there, so if you're a new guitar player learning Neil Young songs, you'll learn some seven chords, and some different positions. Nothing too complicated, just enough to kind of open up your knowledge a little bit." -- Jesse Harris

"I started listening to a lot of Jimi Hendrix and Neil Young when I was 8 or 9 years old - I had siblings that gave me good music instead of the crap that was on the radio in the '90s." -- Elliot Sumner

"My goal is to try and rescue the art form that I've been practicing for the past 50 years. We live in the digital age, and unfortunately it's degrading our music, not improving." -- Neil Young
