Jim Shelley & Book Of Kills

Today's May 3 & Others Interesting Facts

Practicing tonight (this is Wednesday) at 6:00. Looking forward to it. Afterwards, I have to bomb home and go to a Little League game at 8:00.

I suppose I ought to start thinking about us getting a couple live shows in July or August. We could play a decent half an hour to forty-five minute set right now, but I think we ought to get better. And I guess I better start memorizing the lyrics to some of the songs I'm singing that I don't know the lyrics to right now.

Here's something I'll bet you didn't know: Last month more people visited bookofkills.com than ever in the history of...uh...bookofkills.com! 4,313 separate visitors. 18,919 files downloaded from the site. 24,240 hits. Damn. Wish all those people would stream some BOK daily!

Frankie Valli is freaking EIGHTY today. Other immortals born on this day: Bing Crosby (1903...died on a golf course on this day in 1977); Pete Seeger (1919); and Soul Brother #1 a.k.a "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business", James Brown (1933).

On this day in 2008, I played my last gig with George Nipe III's band, Plague Dogs at the Luray Metal Fest in Luray, Virginia. The band had started to become very Book of Kills-ish which seems to happen to every group I join (The Karl Rove being somewhat of an exception to the rule perhaps, but I'm not sure that band ever truly found its identity). The final five songs we ever played were all BOK nuggets..."Glass Turns to Sand", "Fat Woman Lying in the Street", "Lost", "Little Metal Toys", and "River of Blood".
