The Rooftop Concert Was FORTY-FIVE Years Ago!
Dang. Time flies...
On this day 45 years ago, The Beatles played their final show (and one of the more famous live gigs ever) together atop the Apple Building at 3 Savile Row, London. The whole affair, of course, was recorded and later some of it made up part of the band's Let It Be album. The songs: Get Back (which they played five times), I Want You (She's So Heavy, Don't Let Me Down (played twice), I've Got A Feeling, One After 909, Danny Boy, Dig A Pony (played twice), God Save The Queen, and A Pretty Girl Is Like A Melody. You can see the whole show on Youtube.
I remember hearing about the event a few days later and being insanely jealous of those few folks who had been there. I didn't have any inkling at the time that The Beatles were largely already kaput.
Work on the album is coming along, albeit very slowly. It seems to take me longer to lay down tracks these days, and I have other things such as my teeny bookseller career and babysitting grandchildren that require a lot of my time each day. It seems as though the morning and afternoons fly by faster than ever. There is just never enough time to get everything I want to do done.
