Sadie Was A Good Dog

Sorry. If you check this page regularly you know I go on long periods of time when I just can't find the energy or inspiration to update this blog, but this time I've had a justifiable excuse...I've just been really down.

My border collie, Sadie, who's been my close companion for sixteen years has fallen into a rapid decline. Early Friday (May 15), I am taking her to the vet's to be put down. I've had some truly great dogs over the years almost continuously since I was five years old, but Sadie has been the best one of all. I figured not too long ago that she and I have gone on over 33,000 walks together. You build up a lot of friendship when you walk with someone or something that many miles together. It's almost more than I can bear to think that after tomorrow, she'll be nothing more than a memory.

But in the end we're all just temporary memories...a great dog is no different.

"All his life he tried to be a good person. Many times, however, he failed. After all, he was only human. He wasn't a dog." -- Charles M. Schulz
