Rock Around The Clock

If you love your rock and roll, regardless of whether you adore death metal, punk, country-rock, jazz-rock, prog-rock, classic rock, folk-rock, shoegazer, alternative, Brit-pop, thrash, grind-core, psychedelic, etc etc etc, then this day is a very important one for you, and you probably don't know why, do you?

On this day in 1954--that's sixty-two years ago--Bill Haley & His Comets recorded "Rock Around the Clock". That recording has gone on to sell over 25 million copies and still sells today, but what's most significant about it, of course, is that it's the song that kick-started the rock and roll movement around the globe. The song caused riots, kids. Honest.

"The road can be hard on a kid if he's not careful." -- Bill Haley
