Garfield, George III and I had a good practice last night. We still drop notes and beats, forget lots of lyrics and what have you, but we're making slow progress. I think we have fourteen songs down now. Not bad for a band that only practices an hour and a half or so a week together. I'd still like to add one more original and maybe a quirky cover song.
The Police signed to A&M Records on this day way back in 1978. I've always admired Andy Summers tasteful, minimalistic guitar playing. I think now that his style influenced my own more than I've perhaps ever realized to this point. But I've heard a couple old Police songs over the last few days and it sort of struck me that I'd assimilated a lot of his ideas. Back in the day, I'll admit that I was a sucker for The Police's music, though I suppose it's unfashionable to say so. Never liked the name though.
"In The Police, in a trio situation - which I've come back to now - it's just so wide open that it does actually provide this arena where you can play with a certain freedom." -- Andy Summers
