Jim Shelley & Book Of Kills

BOK in 2004

I spent a couple hours today working on an old VHS tape of Book of Kills' only show (featuring Brian Temples, Dusty Bugg, and Mike Chiarello) in front of a live audience from 2004-2007. It's in pretty rough shape. I don't know if I'll release it as a video, though I might upload a few of the songs to YouTube eventually. However, since only 7 of the songs from that night at Harrisonburg, Virginia's Little Grill have ever been released to the public, I think I might make "single" #11 a double CD release of most of that concert. At least one song ("Abandoned") is unusable, but earlier today I found a tape labeled "2004 Practice". That almost surely has to be a pre-Grill practice and I'm hoping that perhaps I can pull a copy of "Abandoned" from that tape. It's going to take quite a while to master all twenty-two songs, so I'm thinking that the CD wouldn't be ready before late next week, if then.

However, if you're a singles series subscriber, you're eventually (well...eventually maybe) going to possess a concert recording long thought lost! Unfortunately, this is a copy of the original video and it has been dubbed at the "slow speed", so the sound is functional at best. That said, it's slightly superior to the seven songs I released back in the mid-2000s. I can hear Brian and Dusty's backing vocals far better on some tracks and the guitars are slightly stronger in the mix. I'll sees what I can do with the tape. I hope I can make it at least listenable since the gig was a notable one in BOK history, for what that's worth.
