7th Song...

I've got the drum and first guitar down for a seventh song. I haven't, however, written any words yet. Might not get around to working on the song any further until Monday. Usually getting the drum track and the first guitar are some of the most difficut parts, other than coming up with lyrics, so once I've gotten to this point, it's a matter of finding the right words and from that point on the song takes shape very quickly. Someone asked me how I "write" my melodies. And truthfully I have to say that I never write melodies. I just sing the words to the music and whatever comes out comes out. I suppose that's why most of my melodies typically don't vary a whole lot in pitch and have few intervals. I think my melodies tend to be fairly rhythmic. That's just the way they are. I never really analyzed my songwriting techniques, though people over the years have shared interesting observations about one of my songs or another that have shed light for me on how I write. I am definitely not very self-conscious about how I compose.
